Vatican’s senior official in war-ravaged Burundi was killed Monday after gunmen fired at his car as he returned from pastoral duties, the Vatican said this evening. Archbishop Michael Aidan Courtney, the papal nuncio to that Central African nation, suffered gunshot wounds to the head, shoulder and leg as he passed Minago, a town about 30 miles south of the capital, Bujumbura, the missionary news agency Misna reported.
