U.S. forces and Afghan government troops arrested 14 suspected Taliban fighters and seized automatic weapons in separate search operations in southern Afghanistan, an official said Wednesday. The suspects were arrested in Dara Bagh area in Zabul province on Monday, said Haji Granai, a senior Afghan army official in Kandahar. Sixteen AK-47 rifles and five heavy machine guns were also seized during the operation in the rugged area, located about 130 miles northeast of Kandahar.
