The United States and Saudi Arabia yesterday named a charity, a company and a person to a United Nations list of alleged sponsors of terrorism, a step that officials called an attack on the new generation of al Qaeda financiers, charities and front companies. “These designations signal that we continue to track terrorist targets and designated persons who attempt to evade the international sanctions regime,” said Juan Zarate, deputy assistant secretary of treasury for terrorist financing.
