Foreign Affairs Minister Kalonzo Musyoka has been asked to secure the release of eight Kenyan sailors held hostage in Somalia. Making the appeal, Industrial Court judge Murtaza Jaffer said the eight were among 19 sailors aboard a Korean fishing vessel who were captured by Somali militiamen at Kismayu several months ago. Writing to Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Jaffer said: “I would request you to bring this matter to the attention of the Honourable Minister Kalonzo Musyoka and request him to intervene…” Jaffer said that the sailors were innocent and were being used as “pawns” in a territorial power game.
