The former head of Colombia’s highway police has been arrested, accused of using the men under his command to escort drug shipments around the country. The scandal is just the latest to hit the corruption-ridden Colombian police force. Last month, Colonel Jaime Leal was relieved of his post as head of the highway police after evidence emerged that this part of the police force was riddled with corruption. Sixty-nine officers were put under investigation. Now Colonel Leal has himself been arrested on charges of using highway patrol policemen to escort drug shipments around the country. Full Story
