London Police Extend 'Ring of Steel' Around City
City of London police have widened their anti-terror “ring of steel” around the capital’s financial district. The local council which manages the area said on Thursday it had extended its Traffic and Environment Zone to cover the western part of the district. Leading investment banks Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan will be included in the new zone. The traffic and environment zone limits the number of entry and exit points for traffic traveling in and out of the financial district, known as the City, enabling police to provide high levels of security for the region. Security has always been high in the City after a series of attacks by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in the 1980s, and has been tightened since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
