Automatic weapons-fire and rocket explosions rang out across Congo’s capital in an outbreak of fighting on Wednesday evening, officials said. It was not immediately clear who was involved in the clash, which appeared to be centred in the southern Bacongo neighbourhood of Brazzaville, government spokesperson Alain Akoulat told The Associated Press. The gunfire began around 8pm (19h00 GMT) and died out after about two hours. There were no reports of casualties. “We’re aware there has been some fighting, but right now, we don’t have any more details than that,” Akoulat said. Two rebel factions in Brazzaville – Ninjas who support former Prime Minister Bernard Kolelas and Ninjas who support renegade pastor Frederic Bitsangou – battled briefly in the same neighborhood on Saturday, Akoulat said.
