The police in Bahrain yesterday detained four demonstrators during a massive demonstration in Snibes quarters, near the capital al-Manama, called upon by “the national committee for the martyrs and victims of torture in Bahrain” to deplore previous human rights violations in the country. The demonstration was organized just one day after the country’s celebration of the National Day, and thousands of Bahraini people, including women, responded to the call for the demonstration and chanted slogans against the rulers of the country, and called for investigations with officials said to have had human rights violations since the beginning of the 1970s. The demonstrators carried photos for some 40 persons said to be killed during their torture or in clashes with the security forces in the mid 1990s. Full Story
