Colombian Report Meets Demand for Freeing Tourists
Meeting a key condition set by Marxist rebels for freeing five foreign tourists, a humanitarian commission on Wednesday accused Colombian far-right death squads of massacring Indians. The five — four Israelis and one Briton — were taken hostage in September by the National Liberation Army, a leftist guerrilla group known by its Spanish initials ELN. The ELN, which claims to be fighting for the country’s poor, has demanded that a humanitarian mission travel to the Sierra Nevada mountains to investigate what they say are abuses by their far-right rivals.
