Masaba Member of Parliament Dr Hezron Manduku escaped death narrowly on Monday evening when armed thugs engaged his bodyguards in a fierce shootout. Dr Manduku had just been dropped at his Imara Daima residence at about 7 pm when two armed thugs emerged and demanded to know his whereabouts. According to police, the MP had alighted from his Range Rover vehicle outside Day Tona Club in Imara Daima estate, a few kilometers from the city centre. Dr Manduku’s two bodyguards, identified as Francis Kimanga and David Karuri, both police constable,s were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The thugs are said to have opened fire and smashed the rear windscreen of the vehicle as it sped off. The bodyguards returned fire as they engaged the thugs in a fierce shootout before the gangsters fled towards Mukuru slums.
