Twelve civilians have been bludgeoned to death with clubs in northern Uganda. The army blamed the attack in Lira on Lords Resistance Army rebels who have killed and maimed thousands during the country’s 17-year civil war. However, a priest from the area says eyewitnesses told him over 50 civilians died during several attacks on Monday. “We want protection… Let them stop this slaughter of innocent civilians like animals,” Father Sebhat Ayele told the BBC’s Focus on Africa.
