A top Paris prosecutor opened an independent investigation Tuesday into the killing of a French radio reporter, allegedly by an AK-47-wielding police officer. French public prosecutor Yves Bot met late Tuesday with President Laurent Gbagbo about the slaying of 50-year-old Jean Helene, shot and killed last month outside a police station in Abidjan, the West African nation’s commercial capital. Bot and another French investigator — Patrick Ramael, a judge — were expected later Tuesday to re-enact events surrounding the death of the Radio France Internationale journalist. Three dozen Ivory Coast security forces armed with automatic weapons blocked off the street where the killing took place for the re-enactment.
