U.S. Says Yemeni Raised More Than $20 Million. A prominent Yemeni cleric who allegedly claimed to be Osama bin Laden’s spiritual adviser was arraigned in a Brooklyn courtroom yesterday after he and his assistant were extradited from Germany on charges of supplying arms, recruits and more than $20 million to the al Qaeda terrorist network, officials announced yesterday. Sheik Mohammed Ali Hassan Moayad, an official with the Islah political party and imam of the Al Ehsan Mosque in Sanaa, Yemen, was arrested in Frankfurt by German authorities Jan. 10, along with his assistant, Mohammed Mohsen Yahya Zayed, after a yearlong FBI sting operation. The two men are charged with providing material support to terrorists, according to court documents, which cite al Qaeda and the Islamic Resistance Movement, more commonly known as Hamas. Full Story
