President Bush said foreigners were fighting in Iraq because they wanted to install a Taliban-style government or were seeking revenge “for getting whipped in Afghanistan.” Bush, who pays a three-day visit to Britain this week, told BBC television he did not know if deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was behind the escalating violence but added: “All I know is that we are after him.” Bush’s interview was broadcast on Sunday, a day after Iraq’s U.S.-appointed Governing Council announced that a transitional government would take over by the end of June from U.S.-led occupiers.
