Norway said on Sunday it was willing to host a donors conference for Sudan after the government and rebels finalize a peace agreement as they have pledged to do by the end of December. Sudan’s government and main rebel group the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) have been holding the latest round of peace talks in Kenya since October 17. They agreed on Sunday to adjourn until November 30. “Progress was made in resolving certain aspects of the outstanding issues while some areas remained to be finalized,” Kenyan chief mediator Lazaro Sumbeiywo said in a statement. “Having reached the end of the scheduled period, the parties agreed to adjourn for Ramadan.” Aid workers estimate that two million people have died, mainly from hunger and disease, in the latest cycle of conflict that broke out in 1983, while millions have fled their homes.
