The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday froze the assets of two Algerians and a Tunisian, saying they are involved with an Algerian Islamic guerrilla group it has designated a terrorist organization. The two Algerians, Mokhtar Belmokhtar and Djamel Lounici, and Tunisian Mustapha Nasri Ait El Hadi, are involved with the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which has been fighting to replace the Algerian government with a purist Islamic state, the Treasury said. The Treasury also designated an organization described only as Al-Bakoun ala al-Ahd as supporting the GSPC, which earlier this week publicly offered its support to the al Qaeda network. Full Story
