U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said Thursday he expected an interim report soon on what caused the Aug. 14 power blackout across the eight U.S. states and southern Ontario. In a television interview after he met with Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Mr. Abraham said the joint U.S.-Canadian investigation of the blackout, which affected tens of millions of people, was progressing. “I don’t think we’re too far away from having an interim report that will say what happened and why,” Mr. Abraham said. He meets Friday with his co-leader of the joint task force, Canadian Natural Resources Minister Herb Dhaliwal, to get an update on the investigation. No report is expected, their offices said.
