A Colombian rebel leader accused of the kidnapping three Americans and the death of another was killed during fighting with government forces in the country’s south, officials said on Monday. Edgar Gustavo Navarro, nicknamed “Stump,” was the second-highest commander of the feared Teofilo Forero unit of the 17,000-member Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia — a guerrilla army known by its Spanish initials FARC. The army accused him of masterminding some of the FARC’s most spectacular strikes, including last year’s hijacking of a commercial airplane — from which the guerrillas snatched a senator. Full Story
