White House says bin Laden tape shows need for tackling terrorism

The White House said that an audiotape attributed to al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, in which he threatens new strikes on the United States, shows the need for “taking the fight” to terrorists. “It is a reminder that the global war on terror continues,” spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters hours after US President George W. Bush arrived in Bangkok eager to shore up the Southeast Asian front of that campaign. “That is why we are taking the fight to the killers and bringing them to justice,” the spokesman said after the recording was broadcast on Qatar’s al-Jazeera television.
