Security clampdown in Ayodhya
Extra police have been deployed in northern India to prevent hardline Hindu activists from holding a major rally at a controversial religious site. Thousands of Hindu activists are trying to enter Ayodhya where they plan to march on Friday, demanding that a temple be built at the site of an ancient mosque. Indian police have arrested more than 2,000 of them on their way to the town from all over India. Hindu zealots tore down Ayodhya’s Babri mosque in 1992 – triggering a year of violence that killed 2,000 people across India. Full Story
