Months after six Yemeni-Americans pleaded guilty to training with a terrorist organization, The New York Times said on Sunday that its investigation into the case found that the men posed “a profoundly ambiguous threat.” In a lengthy report, the newspaper, which conducted its investigation jointly with the PBS series “Frontline,” depicted the six American-born Yemenis from Lackawanna, New York state, as motivated by curiosity, a desire for adventure and excitement and an obligation to their Muslim heritage when they traveled to Afghanistan in mid-2001 to train.
