Detained Terror Suspect Kills 3 in Manila

A detained Muslim terror suspect grabbed a guard’s rifle Tuesday and opened fire at police headquarters in Manila, killing three officers and wounding three others before he was fatally shot during a three-hour siege, officials said. Buyungan Bungkak, 20, was one of five suspected Abu Sayyaf rebels arrested over two bomb attacks last year in southern Zamboanga city that killed seven people and injured 150. He had been allowed to leave his cell for a walk in the sun, a privilege accorded to inmates, when he grabbed the guard’s M16 rifle and shot him, national police chief Hermogenes Ebdane told reporters. He then opened fire on other officers, some of whom he shot several times, Ebdane said. “After shooting his guards, he shot three more in one office. He also shot in the head one officer who already had a gunshot wound in the back,” Ebdane said. More than 100 police sharpshooters and SWAT commandos ringed the building at Camp Crame, with some creeping inside to look for the gunman. Full Story
