It was not until after the powerful explosion here this morning that Rasoul Khalid Ibrahim, a security guard, remembered: the morning before, he saw two men, one in the clothes of a street cleaner, digging a hole in the dirt of a median strip. It is such a common sight, as Baghdad tidies up after war, that he did not give them a second thought. But from that same spot, the bomb went off this morning, missing its apparent target of two passing American Humvees and hitting instead two small buses carrying Iraqis to work in the northern neighborhood of Adhamiya.
