THIRTEEN Nigerian lives are now in danger in various prisons in Saudi Arabia as a result of the intense torture they are being subjected to. The Nigerians, all Yoruba, were among various people arrested by Saudi policemen on September 28, 2002 at a car wash in Bab-Sherif, old Jeddah. Before the September 28, 2002 incident where about 350 people were arrested, the Saudi police had been regularly harassing the people at the car wash on the excuse that they should not make use of the place. During the incident, there was a scuffle with plain-clothes policemen, where a Saudi was wounded and later died in hospital. Following this, 350 people were arrested, out of which 300 were deported and the other 50 detained and tortured. Full Story
