Brazil to Send 3,000 More Soldiers to Amazon, Estado Reports

Brazil will send 3,000 more soldiers to its Amazon jungle next year to patrol the country’s borders with Colombia and Venezuela, O Estado de S. Paulo reported, citing Defense Minister Jose Viegas Filho. The deployment, part of a plan to prevent guerilla groups from entering the Amazon, will boost the number of troops stationed there to about 23,000, the paper said.
