The United States has barred five pilots from the Saudi national airline from flying to the United States after their names turned up this summer on watch lists of people tied to international terrorism, Bush administration officials said today. Saudi Arabian Airlines and the five pilots, all Saudi citizens, were notified several days ago that the pilots would no longer be allowed to enter the United States under any circumstances, the officials said. The airline has regular flights to New York and Washington. The move to bar the Saudi pilots came as a result of an expanded effort this summer by the Department of Homeland Security to scrutinize the backgrounds of pilots flying for foreign airlines to the United States.
