An Afghan official said Monday 15 Taliban guerrillas, including a senior commander, had been killed in a clash involving U.S. forces in the south of the country. “Fifteen Taliban were killed, including Mullah Abdur Rahim, in Maruf district,” said Afghan Foreign Ministry official Khalid Khan Achakzai, speaking in the border town of Spin Boldak not far from the Pakistan frontier. Maruf is in Kandahar province. He said the fighters killed in the Sunday night clash had probably come from the province of Zabul, where hundreds of rebels had been involved in clashes with Afghan troops and U.S.-led forces in recent weeks.
