BA to resume Saudi flights

British Airways says it is resuming flights from London’s Heathrow to Saudi Arabia after suspending services three weeks ago because of security fears. The decision by Europe’s biggest airline comes after a security review of Riyadh and Jeddah airports, in co-operation with British and Saudi authorities. The decision to suspend flights on August 13 followed two clashes in Riyadh between police and Islamic militants that culminated in a full-blown gun battle. However BA said Friday it was satisfied that levels of security were sufficient to resume flights to the kingdom from this weekend. “Our own team of security experts, together with British government officials, has worked closely with the Saudi authorities to implement a number of additional, robust and sustainable security measures,” said Geoff Want, the airline’s director of safety and security.
