Britain has ended a more than three-month-old ban that prevented its national airlines from flying to the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, the British High Commission said in a statement. “Following a decision made by UK ministers, the Department of Transport has written to British airlines to inform them that the ban on British carriers flying to Mombasa has been lifted with effect from September 4,” the statement said Thursday. “The decision was made following recent assessments of revised security arrangements at Mombasa’s Moi International Airport, which showed that the security at the airport is now at a satisfactory level,” the statement added. The British transport ministry told British airlines in May that “the threat level to UK civil aviation interests in Kenya has increased to imminent” and that they should halt flights to Kenya.
