A federal judge on Thursday postponed a bail hearing for a British arms dealer accused of trying to smuggle missiles into the United States, granting his lawyer’s request that prosecutors present evidence in court. Indian-born Hemant Lakhani, 68, was arrested last month in Newark, New Jersey, in a U.S.-British-Russian sting operation after trying to sell a Russian-made shoulder-fired missile to a FBI informant. The informant was posing as an extremist who wanted to shoot down a large commercial airliner. U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Hedges granted a request by defense attorney Alan Zegas that the government present a witness or evidence in court and scheduled another hearing for Sept. 11.
