TERRORISTS are planning a new wave of attacks on soft targets in Indonesia, the US has warned as the federal Opposition said yesterday up to 2000 Islamic terrrorists were at large in the archipelago. The new US warning also says American citizens are at risk of being kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf-linked terrorist groups in Indonesian border areas near Malaysia and The Philippines. Indonesia has criticised the US warning as “excessive”, saying Abu Sayyaf has never mounted an operation in Indonesia. The US continues to advise its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Indonesia and says there are fears of terrorist attacks against US government officials and facilities as well as soft targets frequented by Westerners.
