Kenyan police said they were investigating a suspected arson attack on a foreign-owned beach hotel in the port city of Mombasa the night before. “We have reason to believe that the fire may have been started deliberately,” Mombasa police chief John Aloo said. About 1,400 mostly European tourists were evacuated from four hotels late Monday when a palm-leaf roof on one hotel caught fire, spreading swiftly because of strong winds. The guests were moved to different hotels with no reported injuries. A group of German marines, stationed at the Kenyan coast, Kenya Navy and firefighters helped in the evacuation. Full Story
