Three strong explosions were heard in the centre of Skopje after 2200 (2000 gmt) late last night. No-one was injured, however considerable material damage was caused. We have a statement by Interior Minister Public Relations Adviser Mirjana Kontevska: On 28 August 2003, in the period from 2210-2220, three consecutive explosions were registered in the Skopje central city area. The first explosion took place at 2210. It was probably caused by two mortar shells launched in the direction of the Skopje II Court of First Instance. The windows on the third floor were shattered and there was damage in the form of a 30 cm-wide hole in the wall of the third floor of the courthouse building. According to preliminary reports, a Mercedes vehicle without licence plates was seen near the courthouse building, which sped off at high speed in the direction of the Goce Delcev Boulevard, towards central Skopje, right after the grenade was launched.
