Canada Arrests Pakistani Suspects

Police in Canada have arrested 19 men suspected of links to terrorism. The men were detained last week after a series of raids, but the arrests only came to light after media organisations demanded access to intelligence documents. The men are all being held as national security risks. The arrests all took place across the Toronto area and were carried out by several police forces, along with Canada’s immigration department and the anti-terrorism unit of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. All but one of the men are from the Punjab province of Pakistan. Police say one of the suspects enrolled in a flight school to qualify as a commercial pilot, and flew near the Pickering nuclear power plant just east of Toronto. Two of the other men were discovered loitering outside the facility at night. The police say there is no indication that any of those arrested were about to commit a terrorist act when they were apprehended. Full Story
