Presidency Sets up Special Force on Warri Crisis, Tracks Arms Depots

A Special task force comprising military and police personnel has been set up by the Federal Government as part of efforts to restore order in crisis-torn Warri, Delta State. Also, a security operation to begin the disarmament of the warring parties is underway. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Alexander Ogomudia who disclosed the setting up of the task force in a letter to the Delta State Governor, James Ibori, said part of the mandate of the taskforce is to secure waterways and oil installations, especially to check piracy and vandalisation. The task force, according to Ogomudia, has since moved to the troubled zone and it is headed by Brigadier-General Elias Zamani. The setting up of the task force was sequel to the request made by Governor Ibori. Also speaking in Abuja yesterday, Director of Defence Information, Col. Ganiyu Adewale, said another battalion of the Nigerian Army will be deployed to reinforce those already on ground. Full Story
