The Europeans held hostage for nearly six gruelling months in the Sahara began speaking of their desert ordeal after an emotional reunion with their families. Tired but happy, they talked of their delight at being on home soil and of their darkest moments at the hands of their radical Islamic kidnappers. The nine Germans, four Swiss and a Dutchman had flown in earlier to Cologne airport, western Germany, on an overnight flight from Mali’s capital Bamako. They were quickly bussed to a private reunion with relatives at an airport hotel or, in the case of the Swiss, to an onward flight to Zurich. Full Story
