Fugitives on the run for their involvement in the Bali bombings also planned and helped carry out the bomb attack on Jakarta’s Marriott Hotel, according to evidence just obtained by Indonesian police. The chief of detectives, Erwin Mappaseng, alleged the Marriott bombing a fortnight ago was organised by a senior Malaysian figure in Jemaah Islamiah, Noor din Mohammed Top, while the bomb had been partially assembled by his countryman Azahari Husin, who, police claim, helped build the Bali bombs. They also say funding for the operation may have come from the JI leader, Hambali, arrested in Thailand last week. Police say they have evidence that Hambali gave $US45,000 ($68,000) to Li-Li, a Malaysian, in Thailand in June to be used for bombings in Indonesia, but there is no proof that Noor din received the money or spent it on the Marriott attack.
