A 24-hour police blitz has crippled some of Gauteng’s most violent and notorious hijacking and cash-in-transit gangs. The operation, led by the province’s new Anti-Hijacking Task Team, saw dozens of heavily armed police storm houses, hostels, taverns and hideouts in Pretoria, Johannesburg and surrounding townships in search of “most wanted” criminals. Police arrested 98 people and recovered stolen property worth R1,1-million as the mission to arrest people suspected of murder, rape, hijacking, cash-in-transit robberies and armed robbery rolled across Gauteng late on Thursday night.
