A man attempted to hijack an Air Algeria jet Tuesday, threatening the crew with what he claimed was a grenade before surrendering to security services, Algeria’s official news agency said. After take-off from the Algerian capital, Algiers, the 55-year-old man demanded that the plane divert to the Swiss city of Geneva, the APS news agency said. The crew of the Boeing 737, however, managed to convince him that the plane should land instead at the Algerian city of Oran, one of the flight’s scheduled stops, to refuel and let passengers disembark, the agency said.
