Dissident republicans yesterday murdered a man in front of his wife and some of his six children in west Belfast. Armed men burst into the house in Ross Road in the Lower Falls area just after 11am and shot the man a number of times at close range. He has been named locally as Danny McGurk. Police were quick to rule out any involvement by the Provisional IRA and the murder is believed to have been committed by the dissident Real IRA, which has been increasingly active in the area in recent months. Some local sources said that the killing was “a punishment shooting that went wrong”. But a friend of the victim said simply: “He was executed.” His wife and a number of his children were in the terrace house at the time of the attack and are said to be traumatised. Full Story
