Two Congressional critics of Pentagon initiatives like the terror futures market said today that they would continue to try to block spending on such efforts even though an architect of the program, John M. Poindexter, a retired rear admiral, will leave the agency on Aug. 29. “I am still determined to shut the entire program this fall,” Senator Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon, said after Admiral Poindexter’s letter fixing his retirement date became public this week. “I want to close the Poindexter umbrella.” Senator Byron L. Dorgan, Democrat of North Dakota, said: “The issue wasn’t Poindexter. The issue was preposterous ideas that in some cases threatened the privacy of the American people.” Full Story
