Lack of biodefense experts puts US at risk, study says. The United States is lacking a vital resource needed to fight bioterrorism: bureaucrats, according to a report issued yesterday. The few experts in biodefense are preparing to retire and few people with the right skills have been recruited to replace them, leaving the federal government, and the nation, vulnerable, the report said. ”If a major biological attack occurs, as many think it will, the vitality of our biodefense corps will spell the difference between bad outcomes and catastrophic ones,” said the report, issued by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service.
