Attacks against US forces in Iraq continued yesterday with a grenade dropped on to a convoy, killing a soldier and injuring three more, and a floating bomb raid on a bridge the military was repairing. Witnesses said three soldiers were thrown from their canvas-top Humvee when the grenade was dropped from a bridge into the vehicle as it passed along Palestine Street in central Baghdad. The fatality brings to 50 the number of US soldiers killed since President George Bush declared an end to combat operations three months ago. In what is believed to be the first such attack, guerrillas floated a bomb down a river on a palm log north of Baghdad and detonated it under a bridge. US engineers were repairing the river crossing, a link over the Diala river, which carries traffic between Ba’aqubah and Tikrit, both hotbeds of resistance. Full Story
