Three men died gruesome deaths in an orgy of vigilantism in KwaMashu, north of Durban, on Sunday night, police said. According to Superintendent Vasie Naidu, a group of about 50 local residents went to a house in Lindelani, close to KwaMashu at 9pm and dragged a man from his house. It is alleged that they hacked him to death. Naidu said the mob then went to another house 200m away and dragged another man outside, hacking him to death and then necklacing him. The group then moved to a third dwelling and repeated the violent attack. Naidu said it was rumoured that the three victims – aged 21, 23 and 35 – had been involved in criminal activity. However, she said this factor would have to be investigated. In the meantime she said the police condemned this “vigilantism” in the strongest possible terms. Full Story
