On the eve of today’s arrival of an Australian-led law and order intervention force in the Solomon Islands, warlord Harold Keke released three Anglican brothers held hostage for more than two months. The move was seen as a bid by Keke to forestall an armed attack on his jungle refuge on the remote Weather Coast of the main island of Guadalcanal. However, the hostages confirmed that Keke is still holding six other Anglican Church of Melanesia brothers. The Solomons Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, had earlier been whisked away from the capital, Honiara, on a patrol boat amid concerns over his security.
