Twelve people have been arrested in Burma in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow the military government. According to the country’s ruling generals, the 12 were planning a series of attacks against government members in the capital, Rangoon. The alleged plotters had planted a number of bombs in Rangoon and surrounding townships, targeting the homes of five members of military junta, Colonel San Pwint said. The group are accused of trying to join with the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), led by pro-democracy campaigner Aung San Suu Kyi, in order to conduct a campaign of civil unrest. “They had plans to contact the NLD in creating civil unrest, but I’m not sure whether the NLD leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were aware of the plans,” said deputy military intelligence chief Major General Kyaw Win.
