Lesotho police have expressed concern over a recent spate of vigilante-style murders in the northern districts of the country. The weekly publication of the Lesotho police reported on Monday that the charred, naked bodies of at least two men suspected of stock theft and other crimes had been found. Reports of killings of other suspected thieves were also received from other parts of the country. The public relations officer at police headquarters in Maseru, Superintendent Mpota Nthako, said the police were greatly concerned that the gruesome murders had happened despite appeals to the public that the killings should stop. The police are investigating the murders but no arrests have been made so far. It was discovered that groups of armed men who call themselves “the dogs of the mountain gorges” went from village to village investigating various offences, particularly stock theft. Full Story
