Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir headed the Jemaah Islamiah terror group and urged followers to hack into foreigners’ bank accounts, saying “you can take their blood, then why not take their property”, the Bali bombing trial was told today. And alleged Bali bombing ringleader Muklas confessed to carrying out the attack when he spoke to a relative following a meeting of JI, it was claimed. The testimony, from Muklas’s Malaysian brother-in-law Muhammad Nazir bin Abas, was immediately denied by the defendant in Denpasar District Court. Nazir, who was arrested this year in Indonesia, testified that he and Muklas were among four deputy chiefs of JI. He told the court that the group was headed by Bashir, who has denied that role at his treason trial in Jakarta. Bashir was quizzed by followers who wanted to know whether computer hacking into foreigners’ bank accounts through ATM machines was acceptable in Islam. Full Story
