Colombian rebels have killed six policemen and one soldier during an ambush in the northwest part of the country. Colombian officials say the police and army pursued the rebels near the Caldas province, about 200 kilometers northwest of Bogota, after the guerrillas had kidnapped at least 15 civilians. But the rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, ambushed the police and army, killing the seven. Officials say they eventually rescued all of the kidnap victims. The FARC kidnaps several thousand people each year and holds them for ransom to help pay for its decades-long fight against the central government. Full Story
