An American soldier with the First Armored Division died along with an Iraqi interpreter when the Humvee in which they were riding was attacked Monday morning, a U.S. military spokesman said. The ambush happened in the As-Sulayka neighborhood of Baghdad around 10:30 a.m. local time, the spokesman said. While a witness at the scene told CNN it appeared that a rocket-propelled grenade struck the Humvee, the military said the attack involved “an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.” The ambush was the latest in a series of hit-and-run attacks against American forces in Iraq. Two U.S. soldiers were killed Sunday and another was wounded after being ambushed with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. That attack happened west of Mosul, in northern Iraq.
